Amino's Purpose

Amino was originally created to be a platform for communities to celebrate their collective passions in a safe environment. The App is and has always been advertised for individuals 13+, as stated by their safety guidelines:

"Amino is only for members age 13 and up (and 16+ in the EU). If we receive credible information that a member is under 13, we will permanently delete their profile. Unfortunately, for regulatory and security purposes, we are unable to make exceptions, even with parental permission."

Amino Live Update

The most recent update by MediaLabs - a company responsible for the upkeep and development of Amino since 2021 - introduces a feature known as "Amino Live." This "Tiktok-Vibe" update connects Amino to a known dating app for adults 18+ and shows explicit content on the main page of the app and at the top of every feature page in each community. This content ranges from explicit titles to clearly pornographic imagery. At present, there is no way to hide this feature. Across several communities, moderation teams have put out warning PSA's to prevent individuals from updating their app and seeing the Live feature, quite clearly showing the disdain this community has for such explicit and exploitative content. It is a safety concern for young adults and detracts from the spirit of Amino's founding purpose: to celebrate creativity and mutual passions.

By Signing This Petition:

The members of the over-arching community of Amino reject the want and need of this update. We request that the update is no longer published or, at the very least, allowed to be hidden in a method that is TRANSPARENT (the existence of such a feature will be clear, known, and easy to use).

While the several-hour server outages & no longer blockable ads hinder our enjoyment of this application, it is this latest update that will prompt the mass-deletion of this app from the phones of many loyal users - by both users not wanting to see this content and by parents protecting their impressionable teens. We would like to remind MediaLabs that Amino and KiK are not the same platform and should not be treated in the same manner. We plead with MediaLabs to please not ruin the experience of thousands of members all over the world and to not jeopardize the safety of the youth that use this application. Thank you.
