Continue the Momentum to Remove YCT

Since we posted this petition three days ago we have reached 2,255 signatures and counting. The support has been overwhelming and in order to continue the fight to have YCT removed from campus for their homophobic, transphobic, and racist past we ask that you fill out this email template and send it to the following emails:

president@unt.edu, scott.belshaw@unt.edu, neale.chumbler@unt.edu, jennifer.cowley@unt.edu, christa.coffey@unt.edu

Here is the template:

To the Administration of the University of North Texas:

My name is [FIRST AND LAST NAME] and I am a student at the University of North Texas. I am emailing you today in regards to Young Conservatives of Texas’ harassment of students on our campus. Furthermore, I am calling for them to be de-chartered effective immediately and never reinstated in the future. This is not a call on YCT to be de-chartered due to their political belief, but a call for hate to be removed from our campus.

As you may have already seen, a petition was created by UNT GLAD in collaboration with MUEVE and College Democrats calling for the removal of YCT from UNT for their hateful actions. The petition has already gained over 2,200 signatures and is still being widely shared on social media. I hope that you will take the time to read through the list of YCT’s racist, homophobic, and transphobic statements and actions that directly conflict with UNT’s Division of Institutional Equality & Diversity definition of equity: https://www.change.org/p/removal-of-the-young-conservatives-of-texas-from-unt-for-hateful-actions

It is clear that YCT has a history of racism, homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of targeted harassment at UNT. Many students have expressed a concern for their safety due to this hateful behavior. As the petition states, this is not the first time that students have petitioned for the removal of YCT from campus for hateful actions. The organization was dissolved at UNT in 2005 but later reinstated during the fall 2019 semester. UNT made a huge mistake reinstating YCT in 2019, even after the last chapter’s actions. In order for a safe campus climate to be strengthened, YCT must be removed from UNT as an officially registered organization.

I hope that you will take this matter very seriously and publicly address how you plan to hold YCT accountable for their hateful actions at UNT.

Sincerely,

[FIRST AND LAST NAME]

Please keep sharing and lending your voice against YCT
