Removal of Stop sign at Autumn Drive and Old Ten Rod Road

Recently a Stop sign was placed by the DPW on the north corner of Autumn Drive at the intersection with Old Ten Rod Road after one resident of Old Ten Rod Rd. filed a complaint with the North Kingstown Police Department that the intersection of Autumn Dr. and Old Ten Rod Rd. was a dangerous intersection due to limited line of sight caused by the plantings and a stone entrance sign. The police officer responding to this complaint stated that the line of sight was compromised and in a letter to the Chief of Police suggested a Stop sign on Autumn Drive at the intersection would make it safer for all traffic approaching the intersection from Old Ten Rod Road. This request was then approved by the Town Council on September 11, 2017 https://docs.google.com/gview?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgranicus_production_attachments.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fnorthkingstown%2Fee8612cc16c6654a45e962a3390ed581.pdf&embedded=true.
There are three (3) residences on Old Ten Rod Road, 84 in the Mountain Laurel Estates and 29 in the Villas at Mountain Laurel neighborhoods. The stone entrance sign was installed in the 1980’s at the entrance to the development and is set back sufficiently from the intersection. There has been one (1) accident at that intersection over 20 years caused by someone making a U-turn after entering from Ten Rod Road and none in the past 14 years.
Recent plantings are perennials and any shrubs are set back over 10 feet from the intersection and overgrowth was cut back one year ago. Given that there is limited traffic coming out of Old Ten Rod Road, and sufficient sight lines down Autumn Lane, there is little to justify inconveniencing over 200 driving residents, school bus drivers who must go through this intersection 6 times/day, and various delivery and other commercial drivers. Finally, the intersection with Ten Rod Road is immediately on the other side of the intersection with Old Ten Rod Road which inherently requires residents driving on Autumn Dr. to reduce their speed in anticipation of stopping at a red light.
