Citizens Against Noise Pollution Trinidad & Tobago (CANPTT) has been made aware that The Mayor of San Fernando used racist and insulting remarks to the members of a concerned public when they questioned him on the use of "noiseless" fireworks. The Mayor announced he would use 40% percent of Noiseless Fireworks" for San Fernando's Independence Day celebrations only after there was public backlash against the intended Fireworks display and he was told there was ongoing discussion with the public and the Attorney General. The Mayor was not even aware of the ongoing consultation even though it was so public. We questioned the validity of use of 40% noiseless fireworks as we received numerous reports of the distress and loss of animals, all the while the Mayor continued to taunt the public referring to them as "the Recalcitrant Minority". The Mayor was purposely misleading the very public he was elected to serve. The language he used was disappointing and should never be expected from anyone so high in office and as such, we ask for his immediate resignation
