Removal of Hopeless encampments in the Fashion District of Los Angeles 90021
Why this petition matters
We, the stakeholders (business owners), workers and/or property owners in the zip code 90021 have been impacted by homeless people creating an unsafe environment, including mayhem, vandalism, as well as destruction of property. There have been drug overdoses, shootings, robberies, murders, break-ins, and stolen mail. A mail carrier was robbed at knife point. They stole the truck as well as the remaining mail. The truck was recovered. The robbers are still at large with the keys to the boxes. This has been a concern to the customers and the carriers in the zone. Our mailboxes have been targeted and taken by homeless people. The police have been called out several times to businesses throughout the Fashion District. We have video evidence presented to the United Postal Service and passed on to the Office of the Inspector General as well as the investigators working on ongoing cases in the police department. We must ask the city council to approval and issue an ordinance for the police department to act immediately. We are losing business, have continuous damage and destruction to our businesses. They are taking over businesses property and homes that do not belong to them. A duplex property under renovation located at 752 / 754 E 17th Street has been the latest of destruction. They broke in and caused the fire department to come out and put out a fire on the property that was completely renovated. Now there is trash, broken windows, dogs, and much more damage to this property. They have cause a lot of damage to various businesses throughout the fashion district We as stakeholders are losing business, they are preventing new business from coming into the area as they are set up outside business' front door, back alley of businesses and on the sidewalks. Leaving trash, furniture and human feces. There is a shelter located at 1426 Paloma Ave, which can house 100 people. They don't want to get off the street because there are rules to follow. Law enforcemant should be given the ability to place them in this shelter that can help them. Please share with friends, business, or coworkers in the Fashion District.
