Release Greg Holmes, Wrongly Convicted & Sentenced to 60 years in Prison at the age of 20
In 1997 Greg Holmes was unjustly sentenced to 60 years in Prison for a Home Invasion and Rape in Decatur Illinois that he did not commit. Greg was falsely accused by an angry, vengeful young white woman who wanted Greg to be separated from his family because he would not leave them for a life with her. At the time Greg was a young, uneducated, 20 year old black male with learning disabilities, a speech impairment and a court appointed attorney that did not do proper discovery or represent him appropriately. Greg was convicted on 100% circumstantial evidence; no rape kit was completed, no DNA was ever collected from he or the victim(s) in the case. One of the victims related to this case even admitted she only ID’d Greg in a lineup because someone told her to look for a man in a certain pair of shoes. She never made a positive facial or voice ID.
Greg was never taken seriously when he proclaimed his innocence and the result has caused him to live a lifetime in prison.
Greg has four adult children that he adores, five grandchildren he has not been able to meet & his brother waiting for him to come home. His adoring mother & father have passed away while he has been incarcerated, he was never afforded the opportunity to say Goodbye to them or grieve with his family.
As his family we are desperate to get his sentence reversed. Greg and his family vehemently deny his involvement in this crime, maintaining his innocence for the past 25 years. Please sign the petition and share it with as many people as possible to get his case reviewed and Greg released from Prison in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
