Why this petition matters

Started by Eric Bonetti

As of 2020, 178 Roman Catholic bishops, archbishops and religious community leaders across the United States have published lists of clergy members against whom credible allegations of sexual abuse had been made.

In 2022, the Southern Baptist Convention released a 300 page report covering 20 years of sexual abuse charges against more than 400 Baptist leaders with more than 700 victims since 1998.

The Episcopal Church has resisted efforts to release a similar database as an expression of the transparency required by its own canon law.

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry retires in 2024, and the first year of the new Presiding Bishop's term will be used for transition.

Now is the time for action on a public database of Episcopal Church clergy and lay employees convicted of sexual abuse.
