Their has been recent crime increase that is reported in the Nairobi. Nurses are sharing information of cases of stabbings in local hospitals and clinics. My recent encounter is with a lady who was robbed of her belongings and shoes near the scouts HQ. She was terrified and was worried how to go back home to see her children.

In more social media revelations of muggings happenings in locations in the city including the global cinema roundabout, the Koja junction and other locations along Thika Road, the attackers pull their act without fear.

These crimes are attributed to the youths who form the largest percentage of the population based on the recent census done in 2019.

The Kazi Mtaani Initiative that was launched by the previous regime ensured that hundreds of thousands of youths were engaged in gainful work.

Their were at least 1.15M registrations of youths for the National Hygiene program that were on standby to join the program. The decision by the president to suspend the program dealt a big blow to the youths. We can only attribute the current crime to lack of decent work for the youths.

WE THE PEOPLE therefore demand the reinstatement of the program as a stop gap measure as the government of Dr. William Ruto works to develop a framework to engage more youths in gainful employment. We are a capitalistic economy, their has to be employers, consumers, producers and creators. The economy is also not doing well as per the indicators with hundreds of business closing everyday. Our push is that we don't "entrench the man eat man society" to levels that we cannot control.

     The framework for engagement for the thousands of the employed youths for this program should be gaining entry level skills in companies, government and organizations through pay per hour model so that they are job ready and have something to save and take care of their needs. The end term goal should be find work abroad to engage the youths. This will tremendously boost the inbound foreign cash inflows and KEEP CRIME IN CHECK!
