Reintroduce Canadian Cultural Traditions in Nova Scotia Schools

Reintroduce Canadian Cultural Traditions in Nova Scotia Schools
The Issue
I'm a concerned parent, watching my child grow up without experiencing the same cherished traditions I did as a child. Our children are missing out on important cultural events such as Christmas concerts and Santa visits - staples of our Canadian heritage. The essence of inclusivity should encompass our own traditions as well. They are a pivotal part of our culture, evoking a sense of belonging and familiarity.
In Canadian households, 38% celebrate traditions of their cultural ancestry alongside Canadian customs (Sources: Statistics Canada), demonstrating the importance of diversity in our societal fabric. Yet, when it comes to school celebrations, it feels as if Canadian traditions are being left out. This imbalance should not persist.
The exclusion of these events from our children's educational experience risks fostering a generation that lacks a strong understanding of their cultural heritage. By muzzling these traditions, we unwittingly obscure our children's sense of self. Let's ensure the cultural balance includes Canadian traditions, promoting a rich, diversified, and comprehensive cultural understanding.
We implore school boards across Nova Scotia to reintroduce Canadian traditions and celebrations into their curriculum. While recognizing and respecting the importance of international customs, let's not forget our own. Please sign this petition to bring back Canadian traditions to our schools and help our children to understand and appreciate their cultural roots.
