Today Yana Taets announced to a class full of her students that she was terminated from her position at the university due to her vaccination status. Despite the fact that she received the Sputnik V vaccine in Russia, which has been approved by multiple countries worldwide, her paperwork was not recognized and she was given notice yesterday that she would either have to get an American vaccine within three days or be terminated. Not only was this termination poorly communicated (with notice only being given yesterday), but it is also based on a false premise, which is that she is considered "unvaccinated." As stated before, Sputnik V has a proven efficacy rate of over 70% and has been approved by many countries besides Russia. This wrongful termination reeks of discriminatory Russophobic and anti-Eastern European sentiment, and also puts the learning of multiple Russian and German classes at the U in jeopardy. This petition is asking for justice for Yana Taets, as well as the students whose lives she has touched in multiple different ways. She deserves better. We deserve better. And we will not rest until we have made our point clear.
