Shaima Dallali, the president of the National Union of Students, has been the victim of a barrage of racist and Islamophobic abuse since her election as president. However, instead of supporting her the National Union of Students, as well as the government, have chosen to go ahead and bring this previously fringe far-right campaign into the mainstream. 

Shaima Dallali has now been suspended under the guise of reverse racism, for a tweet she made ten years ago as a child, and has since apologised for. She is really being targeted due to being a strong black Muslim woman who has campaigned unapologetically against racism both here and abroad, particularly in regards to the apartheid being endured by the Palestinians. 

We demand that Shaima Dallali be immediately reinstated into her position, with a full apology to both her and the students she represents, and that just as she proposed working alongside Jewish groups for investigation into antisemitism within the NUS, the same must be done alongside Muslim groups and societies in relation to Islamophobia.
