I am a mammy of 3 living in Newcastle Co Dublin. I welcomed a new arrival in May 2022. Like all mother's and babies in Newcastle I recently received a letter to advise that due to staffing shortages all development checks performed by the public health nurse are not going ahead, with the advise to check my child.ie or go to your gp with concerns. 

This is simply not good enough and yet another instance of Ireland letting down their mothers and babies. 

GP's services are already under pressure with issues getting appointments for illness nevermind developmental concerns.

 

To use a website or book is no replacement for checks performed during such a busy development time.

I know this is an issue not faced by my own community and around the country mother's and babies have already received the very same letter.
