Minimum Trade Rates for Skilled Trades Workers

In this tough economic climate, there is a growing gap between what companies charge for their labour and the pay for the skilled labourer performing the work. The growing trend is for companies to underbid jobs to get the work and the skilled labourer ultimately is the one that is affected by this poor business model. The project facilitator gets a lower rate for services, thus maximizing their investment, the business bidding on the job cuts their labour costs, either offering their employees a lower rate or minimizing the amount of skilled workers for the job. In short, the employee pays the price. Having to do more work for a lesser rate of pay than the job is worth. This type of model breeds can breed an unsafe work environment, due to the added stress of having to work longer hours and/or unreasonably increasing the workers productivity expectations. I feel a minimum"Trade Wage" should be implemented by our Government. If the employers wish to make cuts, it should be on their profit end and not to the struggling worker who ultimately has to perform the work. If our work is to be subject to standards such as code, there should be standards on our rates of pay to perform such tasks.
