This petition is for Regis University in Denver, Colorado, requesting that the school goes towards all online courses for the Fall 2020 semester due to the threat of Coronavirus (COVID-19). The United States has not done its best to handle this pandemic, and even if the University follows safe practices, there will still be COVID-19 cases at the school.

There are many students who have family members with compromised immune systems who commute to campus, and there are many students that are coming from out of state to attend in-person classes who may have been from a state with a poor Coronavirus response. There are also numerous Regis University faculty that are in the senior age range and are at a higher risk of contracting the disease or becoming seriously ill from it. There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the safety of the Metro-Denver community and whether or not it is actually safe for universities to have primarily in-person classes. Even if college-age students may not show symptoms because they are generally healthier, they can still become seriously ill or spread the disease very easily to other people.

While in-person classes are important for students who are beginning college and making new relationships, it is not safe at this time to do so. Other universities around the U.S. are going all online to avoid further calamity. Also, Regis University has a long history of online education and has many classes that are well-put-together; Spring of 2020, the school had higher pass rates, a higher university-wide GPA, and lower withdrawal rates once classes went online in March, so there should be no issue with the quality of online education from this school.

If the school goes online for the Fall 2020 semester, then this will help to further flatten the curve and fight this pandemic, keeping the rest of the community safe. This might even be seen as an act of leadership in the eyes of other Colorado universities for the safety of the students and the rest of Colorado's communities.
