Hello Mumbaikars,

Our Mumbai is one of the most densely populated cities in India. It also has a wonderful road network and public transport system.

We all are also aware that Mumbai is undergoing massive development with new infrastructure of Metro trains across Mumbai.  The construction of metro tracks and other related infrastructure is  happening with great speed. Since the metro is covering entire city, it would be great mode of transport once its up and running. But right now due to construction, it's blocking the main roads of Mumbai. particularly the Western suburbs of Mumbai and it is extremely painful to travel by road. Traffic jams at various locations causes significant delays. We are spending our precious time and resources in traffic jams instead of reaching our homes or offices in time. Instead of only  blaming the BMC and Metro work for the traffic jams, we should also take initiative to address the traffic issue.
I travel daily on the New Link road from Andheri to Borivali and I observe that 2 lanes are closed on each side for metro construction. On top of this, some other lanes  are blocked because of street parking, street vendors and other obstacles, which allows only one lane for vehicles to move. Areas of Bangur Nagar, Bhagat Singh Nagar, VIBGYOR School (Goregoan), Adarsh Nagar, Lalji Pada, etc are badly affected. This creates bottleneck resulting in traffic jams / traffic snarls. Lot of places also had pandals during the festival, there were cultural/ religious even conducted on he road by making stage on the road. These all add to the problem and increase the travel difficulties.
In spite of massive metro construction and road block, our authorities have not planned a alternate way to ease out the traffic. Also BMC did not strictly act for not giving permissions for festival celebration on roads.

I would suggest as a responsible citizen if we self discipline ourselves and avoid street parking, street vendors and building pandals to celebrate festivals, we can greatly contribute in easing the movement of vehicles in the main roads.

I would request all of your support to appeal to RTO, BMC and the local government body to enforce strict rules of 'no parking', 'no hawker's zone' on the main roads which have roads already blocked on account of Metro work. This would help to streamline traffic and all of us will be able to reach our destination on time and save our precious time and fuel. Chalo jaldi pahuchate hai..
