Andamooka is a rural opal mining town with a current population of 250. When opal was discovered in Andamooka in the 1930's a "gold rush" atmosphere ensured and the town boomed in the 50's and 60's. Since then the town mainly relies on the local BHP mine for employment opportunities.
Stepping into Andamooka is like stepping back in time and the characters and the characteristics of the town are hard to forget. Community members work hard to keep the frontier feel alive so that visitors can experience, first hand, a part of Australian history that a lot do not know about.
Not being located on a major highway means it is a place you go to - not through, and because of this, the locals along with APOMA are pushing for a the establishment of a road that connects Andamooka to the Borefeild Track. Linking Andamooka to the Borefeild track will ensure that tourist who visit this area will be able to loop into Andammoka and back out onto the Borefeild Rd, creating a unquie outback experience that allows them to fully experience what Andamooka has to offer.
The Andamooka Progress And Opal Mining Association is keen to move forward with the Borefeild Road Extension, as this critical infrastructure will create income streams and employment opportunities within the town and on a regional basis.
Please help us keep Andamooka on the map. Support the establishment of this connection road and support our historical town prosper once more.
