Save Our Interscholastic Middle School Sports Program

The Region 15 School Board is considering a budget cut that would eliminate interscholastic middle school sports at Rochambeau and Memorial Middle Schools. Research shows that students who participate in middle school sports have higher grade point averages than non-participants. Interscholastic middle school sports allow children to learn teamwork and practice perseverance. Participants can improve fine motor skills and gain confidence, in addition to developing lifelong habits of physical activity. And maybe most importantly, interscholastic sports participation reduces the likelihood of dropping out of high school and increases the their chances of attending college, according to the US Department of Health and Human Services.
Please sign this petition and join us at the next budget meeting on Wednesday, May 21st to let the Region 15 Board of Education know that we want our middle school interscholastic sports programs off the chopping block as they make deeper cuts to the 2014-2015 school-year budget. Every voice counts.
We the undersigned, request the Region 15 Board of Education to take the middle school interscholastic sports programs off of the list of proposed cuts to the 2014-2015 school-year budget.
