Why this petition matters

The collective agreement negotiated by URFA Academic during the last round of collective bargaining substantially reduced the job security of sessional contract faculty at the University of Regina. A small number of sessionals made gains in terms of income but only if they are willing and able to take on course overloads and work more than 40 hours per week without “time and a half” overtime pay. The majority of sessionals have faced significant reductions in their usual course loads.

URFA negotiators also bargained to further reduce job security for contract faculty by eliminating the 5 year right of first refusal granted to contract faculty to teach the online web delivered courses they develop. A similar provision for full time faculty who develop online courses was left intact.

In the interest of improving the conditions of contract faculty employment at the University of Regina we, the undersigned members of URFA Academic, ask that the current bargaining team commit to:

·         Bargain for greater job security for ALL sessional faculty members

·         Bargain for higher sessional faculty incomes via wage increases instead of course overloads.

·         Bargain for over-time pay for sessional faculty who teach more than 40 hours per week as mandated by Saskatchewan labour code.

·         Bargain to reinstate the 5 year right of first refusal for sessional course developers in order to bring online course development policies back in line with online course development agreements for full time faculty.

This petition is intended for members of URFA Academic only. Please indicate your department(s) along with your name.
