Jackie Robinson was not only influential in baseball at the time but was significant to the civil/human rights era. To name this facility after him will allow his legacy to continue to remain important for those who may ask "who is the Jackie Robinson this building is named after...."

Because of what he did and what he stood for and how he struggled and ultimately was responsible for lifting so many people upon his shoulders and leading a way to bring about positive changes in all of our lives.

What better way to right the wrong of naming a street after the Le Conte family (of slave holders) than to name it for a black man whose career exemplified the goal of the equality of all people in every way of life?

This is important to me because it creates an important historical connection for the population that I serve as an educational practitioner.

Mr. Robinson served in more ways then just baseball, he was a Army officer and served our country in uniform as well as opening the doors to baseball. And he did it without raising his voice just through his actions and proving the he respected himself as well as the people who tried to disrespect him.
