Stop Southwark Council harassing support centre for homeless and vulnerable people

Divine Rescue is a volunteer-led humanitarian charity in south London that has been supporting homeless and vulnerable people for thirteen years. Operating out of Thurlow Lodge on the Aylesbury Estate in Southwark, we provide meals, clothes and support to more than a hundred people a day, including the homeless, ex-offenders, vulnerable people and those experiencing a crisis in their lives. But we have suffered regular harassment from the local council, Southwark, who have in the past attempted to clear us out of our premises altogether as part of their proposed ‘regeneration’ of the Aylesbury estate. Now they are taking us to court over an alleged instance of anti-social behaviour that they have not been able to substantiate and using this as an excuse to limit our opening hours, meaning we can no longer take evening deliveries from our many partners (including Greggs, Pret a Manger  Borough Market, Tesco, City harvest, KFC, Ndons, Malcom Outreach or hold our regular prayer Meetings in the evenings with the community]. If this continues, we will no longer be able to provide daily, nutritious meals to those in the borough who most need them and we can’t provide counselling or prayers to the community who urgently needs spiritual support to help them through their hard times. Our Centre is a life line to over thirty-two thousand residents with support needs every year, please help us to Save Divine Rescue by signing this petition to Southwark Regeneration Manager Simon Chambers.
