Refugees need help
Why this petition matters
We, the undersigned, raise our utmost concerns about Mr. Mohammad Afrazeh and his wife Shahrzad Karimialavicheh, who are living between hope and despair in Malaysia. They are under constant threat of reprisal and are fearful of forced return to Iran, where they would face certain arrest, imprisonment, torture, and possible death. The branch office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Malaysia has granted them bona fide refugee status. They have been in the waiting list of the UNHCR for resettlement in a safe country for years. Due to their work as journalists, the couple are under constant threats from Iranian authorities in Malaysia. Upon their arrival in Malaysia, Mohammad was kidnapped by Iranian agents in Kuala Lumpur. We call the government of Canada to process Shahrzad and Mohammad for resettlement in Canada as government assisted refugees.
