Hi I am a second-year pre-biology major at UCSB.  I have had terrible experiences with the advising department here and have been talked down upon multiple times.  I have had friends reach out to get advising who have been told "What makes you think you could declare a major like this with grades like that?"  Often when reaching out to advising they question the classes we have taken or why we did not take such and such class yet. The problem all stems from the fact that no on wants to utilize this resource in the first place due to their demeaning approaches.  Additionally, they are almost impossible to reach on the Q-less and even when that is possible, I leave the call being more confused than I was before. I understand these advisors are most likely underpaid but I think UCSB needs to step in for some changes.  Whether that be raising the pay or training the advisors more efficiently, something has to be done.
