Reform the FAA policy on DPE/PPE terminations

Reform the FAA policy on DPE/PPE terminations
The Issue
For over 15 years, I dedicated myself to performing check flights for the FAA as a Pilot Proficiency Examiner (PPE), working tirelessly to ensure aviation safety. Despite my exemplary track record, I found myself abruptly terminated, left with no recourse, no rights, and without a $70,000 annual income—all because of an agent with a vendetta, targeting me for minor clerical issues. This agent has a troubling track record, leading the FAA in terminations with 16 in just two years, showcasing a blatant abuse of power.
Our situation is dire. Designated Pilot Examiners (DPEs) and Pilot Proficiency Examiners (PPEs) like myself are being unfairly terminated under a flawed Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) policy. Despite not being considered FAA employees, we are held to exceedingly high standards, higher than some FAA managing specialists, yet we face termination at their whims with no accountability or recourse.
A report from the FAA indicates a rising concern over the treatment and turnover of DPEs/PPEs, impacting not only our livelihoods but also aviation safety and efficiency. The unchecked power of FAA managing specialists to terminate DPEs/PPEs undermines the integrity of the aviation review process, risking the quality and safety of pilot assessments.
It's time to shine a light on this issue and call for a comprehensive review and reform of the DOT/FAA termination policy. We demand:
1. The establishment of a fair and transparent review process before termination.
2. Recognition and protection of DPEs/PPEs as critical contractors in the aviation industry.
3. An independent committee to oversee FAA managing specialists’ conduct related to terminations.
This reform is not only about justice for those unfairly terminated but also about ensuring the continued safety and reliability of our aviation system. Let’s protect the hardworking DPEs/PPEs from unjust termination policies that disrupt lives and compromise aviation safety. Sign this petition and demand change now for a fairer, more accountable process for everyone involved.
