The aim of our petition is to highlight the effects of our current maternity leave laws and the gender roles they enforce. 

Women in Ireland are entitled to 26 weeks paid maternity leave whereas men are only entitled to 2 weeks. 

In countries such as Norway, parents are entitled to 49 weeks of 100% wage or 59 weeks at 80% pay to be spilt between them as they see fit. 

Our model assumes the mother as the carer and makes it easier for women  to be discriminated against in the hiring process.
