As a large metal dinosaur, it may surprise you to learn that I am concerned about the traffic speeds and lack of safety on my street, Jefferson Avenue, in Redwood City. There is a pilot project being considered on Monday January 26th where they'll consider reducing the number of lanes on the street in a thoughtful way that will reduce speeding and speeding-related accidents. If this is something you agree with, particularly for those that live nearby, I would greatly appreciate your support via this simple online petition.

Last year on my street, there were 8 collisions related to excessive speed, one with serious injuries. The plan will also incorporate bike lanes to make cycling safer on a route that sees many commuting and recreational cyclists, including families with kids.

From their website:

Redwood City’s vision is for a safe, healthy, sustainable community. The overarching transportation goal is to establish a balanced, multi‐modal transportation network that gets us where we want to go safely and
minimizes environmental and neighborhood impacts.

Pilot purpose:  Evaluate whether reconfiguring the existing four traffic lanes on Farm Hill Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue increases safety and improves livability for the residents, visitors, and employees of our

Where:  Farm Hill Boulevard from the western city limit (below Cañada College) to Jefferson Avenue and Jefferson Avenue from Farm Hill Boulevard to Alameda de las Pulgas. No changes would be made to the Alameda de las Pulgas intersection.

What:  The pilot would remove the existing lane markings and replace them with painted (temporary) lane marking in the new configuration. Data would be collected before and after the changes are made to determine if the project meets the community’s goals.
