In Fleetwood Pennsylvania, there is a dangerous intersection known as Fleetwood Lyons road intersecting with Dryville road. Traveling westbound the speed on Fleetwood Lyons road is displayed by multiple street signs enforcing a speed limit of 55 miles per hour. Traveling westbound there are also two signs warning drivers there is an intersection of Fleetwood Lyons Road and School Road. When approaching this intersection traveling westbound on Fleetwood Lyons road you come over a hill that prevents drivers from seeing in an adequate amount of time if traffic is backed up. This leaves drivers little to no time to break. Drivers are traveling up to 55 miles per hour or more while facing these potential hazards. Adding on to this, the combination of traffic at shift changes ranging from 1:45 pm- 3:30 pm from East Penn Manufacturing and the dangerous speed displayed at this point of the road creates extreme hazards to drivers. This intersection is known for traffic backing up due to busy shift changes at East Penn Manufacturing which is located just a few miles away from this intersection. On October 21, 2022, there was a fatal accident at this sight that took the life of a young male named Paul James Cook Jr. He was a son, a brother, a grandson, a boyfriend, and an inspirational leader to many. When approaching the crash sight it was told to his family that there were multiple skid marks at the scene that were not from this fatal accident but due to prior accidents that have occurred at this dangerous intersection. Before another valuable life is taken there needs to be "reduction of speed" signs placed at this point of Fleetwood Lyons road traveling westbound warning drivers to slow down for potential hazards such as backed-up traffic and stopped vehicles turning. Safety measures need to be put into place to avoid many minor car accidents as well as fatal accidents from happening. These "reduction of speed signs" will aid drivers in warning them of the dangerous intersection approaching just over the hill and provide them with an ample amount of time to realize the potential hazards ahead. Aiding drivers to reduce speed will create a safety measure put into place to slow people down and give them more time to break. Before another life is taken we can prevent it from happening again and claiming the life of another innocent individual.
