Reduce the weighting of the NSC Mathematics Paper 2
Reduce the weighting of the NSC Mathematics Paper 2
Why this petition matters
The final NSC Mathematics mark consists out of a student's SBA mark which counts 25% of the year and the the NSC exam mark that counts 75% of the year. Students who do Mathematics write paper 1 and paper 2. Each paper counts 50% of the 75%. This petition aims to allow students to achieve a better mark using the marks they obtained by reducing the weighting of paper 2 to 25% and increasing the weighting of paper 1 from 50% to 75%.
Under the current circumstances if a student achieves 75% for paper 1 and 50% for paper 2 their NSC exam mark will be 63,5%. If the weightings are adjusted so that paper one counts 25% instead of 50% then their NSC exam mark will be 70,25%. This makes a massive difference and will allow many students who might have failed paper 2 to pass as well as increasing the amount of distinctions achieved nationally.
There is no addition or subtraction of marks, but instead using the marks that were achieved by students and altering the weightings of it.
