Reduce the Suffering of Voiceless Animals through population and breeding control
Why this petition matters
As we all know, the population of dogs in India is as much as the entire population in Canada, however, they are hardly taken care of or seen as pets. One such reason is because of rampant commercial, illegal and backyard breeding. The horrors of breeding are such that we as rescuers have received requests for abandoned puppies with distemper and parvo. A lot of times dogs are abandoned even if they don’t have a problem. A breeder never takes a dog back like a rescuer does and despite the profit, does not spend any money treating a sick puppy. They rather dump puppies and discard the mother once she is done being a baby factory. If India effectively bans breeding with banning all its kinds-commercial, illegal and backyard breeding, we will be able to direct that attention towards our own dogs and will reduce the abuse caused by breed fanciers and breeders. If someone wants a particular breed still, they will still be able to import them through another country but they probably will have better licensing and have the pups sterilized. As for imports, they will have to go through paperwork and this will act as another barrier besides cost. The import of breeds should also be either controlled or banned. In order to prevent backyard breeding, sterilization should also be mandatory for pets. Sterilization is also the only way to control the population of dogs on the streets. Perhaps, once breeding is banned, a lot more people will be willing to adopt Indian dogs instead and in turn help in removing them from the streets, into homes. They are a life with feelings and a soul not a shoe or cloth item that should be traded. This is no less than brutality. Let us make sure we vote only for leaders who work not just for us but also against breeding in India. We appeal to the DSPCA, Office of MANEKA GANDHI to help in our plea. Also for the Supreme Court of India to kindly heed to our request and devise new laws in this sector.
