Reduce the Speed Limit on Yorktown Boulevard near Luther Jones Elementary School

The Issue

Every day, I witness the chaos that ensues by Luther Jones Elementary School at Yorktown Boulevard and Lipes Boulevard because of the high speed limit on Yorktown. Cars zip by ignoring the 25 mph school zone speed limit and disregard the crossing guard who places their life on the line to help keep students safe. Congestion forms as traffic trying to exit the school from Lipes Boulevard via the single exit is held up for blocks. Parents trying to drop off or pick up their children face immense difficulties, and the task of safely exiting onto Yorktown Boulevard is daunting due to the speed of the oncoming traffic.

This issue, persistent twice every school day, stems largely from the current speed limit on Yorktown Boulevard which, in the face of such heavy school traffic, proves to be excessively high. It's time we address this issue for the safety of our children and ease of school commuters. We propose a reduction of the speed limit on Yorktown Boulevard from 25 mph to 15 mph. This reduction would regulate the speed of oncoming traffic, making it safer for our school commuters and pedestrians, and enhance overall traffic conditions by preventing the build-up of congestion.

The safety of our children cannot be compromised. We urge the relevant authorities to take immediate action and reduce the speed limit on Yorktown Boulevard near Luther Jones Elementary School. Please sign this petition to help ensure our children's safety and a better school commute.
