Catherine L started this petition to Customer Communications Department 617-222-3200 MBTA and

The Boston Subway lines are over a hundred years old. Parts of the subway lines are above ground / act line tramways and run through residential neighborhoods

Tramways, whether older type cars or more recent produce in some areas very loud "screeching" sounds spanning from about 5 am to 1 am. The law punishes producing sounds above 60 decibels after working hours or above 70 decibels during the day. In most cases, noises emitted by the tramway exceed by far those levels (examples include on the green line Harvard avenue station, Boylston station, and many many others.)

It affects local residents' sleep and overall health and impacts negatively the Real estate market in affected areas.

Please sign this petition if you would like the MBTA  to address this issue by fixing tracks/subway cars to minimize noise and make local neighborhoods healthier!

Thank you!
