Klaudia Cierpial started this petition to Nicola Sturgeon and

To The House of Commons
My partner and I set up this petition in memory of our stillborn daughter as well as all the stillborn babies in the UK. At the moment 1 in every 250 pregnancies are stillborn, that is 8 babies every day! Our daughter was stillborn at 28 weeks, her umbilical cord abnormality could’ve been seen on an ultrasound in those 8 weeks gap without being checked.
We want the government as well as the NHS to see how crucial it is for pregnant women to have more often scans during their 20-40 weeks period of pregnancy. For us 8 weeks without a check up cost us our babies life.
I want to introduce mandatory ultrasounds every 4 weeks after the 20 week scan to minimise the chances of stillbirth and increase the chances of our babies surviving! Decrease the chances of depression for mothers and fathers and increase the chances of happy families. Often the problems of stillbirth occur towards the end of pregnancy (past 20 weeks) which is the reason they aren’t visible in the 20 week scan. But if Identified the baby could be monitored and delivered carefully by caesarean to reduce their chance of being stillborn and increase their chances of living.
Most hospitals only allow more frequent scans for woman who are high risk including the ones who had a stillborn baby. It doesn’t make sense that we have to lose a baby in order to receive the care we deserve. Therefore I am asking for you to sign this petition in memory of our daughter Maya Iwona Sheldon, and all the stillborn babies whos lives could’ve been saved, in hope that we can make a change, introduce more frequent scans and identify pregnancy complications before it’s too late.
