More than 25000 tonnes of plastic is generated each day in India, so much so that a whopping 30.5 lakh tons of plastic waste was generated in 2018-2019. Additionally, this amount has been steadily rising exponentially over the years with no signs of slowing, with more than 34 lakh tons of plastic waste being generated in just the next year, 2019-2020. India’s plastic waste generation has more than doubled in the last five years, having an average annual increase of 21.8 percent.

A large part of this problem stems from the fact that, while more eco-friendly refills for the shampoo bottles are sold internationally, these are often not available in India. This leads us to buy entirely new bottles of shampoos and conditioners, contributing heavily to the generation of plastic waste.  

While companies such as Dettol, Lifebuoy and Savlon offer their products in refill packs to lessen the generation of plastic waste, many other cosmetic companies do not.

As such, I request the popular brands Palmolive, Head & Shoulders, Dove, Harpic, Clinic Plus, Loreal, Biotique, Vatika, Himalaya and more to offer their products in refill packs in India as well.

@CPCB_OFFICIAL, @moefcc,  @byadavbjp and other concerned authorities, please help lessen the burden of plastic waste caused by single-use bottles in India.
