Reduce Food Waste While Creating Energy

The United States wastes 40% of its food. In 2015 alone 42.2 million people were food insecure, which means lacking reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food (feedingamerica.org). If we are able to utilize our wasted food to feed those who are hungry, we will be able to increase food security as well as reduce methane emissions from landfills. The methane that is already emitted from landfills can be utilized to produce energy. Encouraging tax breaks for sanitation departments can help drive this effort in reducing methane emissions and providing energy. This will not only provide a healthier nation, but a healthier earth.
