Charles Brundage started this petition to Redmond school district

On January 19th, the Redmond School District in Redmond, Oregon, will be hosting students in the building for in person learning. They are planning to do this despite around 4,000 Americans dying from COIVD-19 every day. Source

Students and teachers can opt out from going back to school, however if they choose to stay home, students will have to learn asynchronously, where they are unable to learn and interact with their teachers. What’s worse is that if teachers choose to opt out, they do not receive any pay and they lose their insurance. Some teachers are at risk of dying from Covid due to either their age or their health conditions, and they will have to go to a building with potentially hundreds of people who could spread the virus.

The school district is not giving students and teachers a real choice. Students have to choose between their health or their education, and teachers have to choose between their health and their pay. This is an unfair choice where both outcomes are negative. While students and teachers have expressed their dislike of online school, they are able to recognize the safety of it. The Redmond School District should not be allowed to force students and teachers to make such an unfair decision.
