Hola Redmond! We know that discrimination is a real issue our fellow community members face, including those individuals and families who have come here as immigrants. This resolution will commit the city of Redmond to protect our shared community value of Redmond being a welcoming and neighborly place for everyone. The resolution will lead to the city of Redmond joining Welcoming America, a national non-partisan initiative, linking us with towns and cities that share our vision. 

Join us on October 24th at 5:45pm at Redmond City Hall, 446 SW 7th Street, for a public meeting to request the City Council adopt the Welcoming Redmond resolution. (TENTATIVE: Call City Hall to confirm)

A RESOLUTION TO DECLARE REDMOND A WELCOMING CITY AND AFFIRM MEMBERSHIP IN THE NATIONAL WELCOMING AMERICA INITIATIVE

WHEREAS,
discrimination is understood to negatively impact local economic activity and the health and well-being of all our residents; and

fostering a welcoming environment and treating all individuals with compassion and respect, regardless of race, ethnicity, place of origin, or citizenship status enhances Redmond's cultural fabric, economic growth, global competitiveness and overall prosperity for current and future generations;  and

Redmond aspires to be a welcoming place where people, families and institutions thrive and the contributions of all are celebrated and valued; and

Redmond is committed to ensuring a welcoming and neighborly atmosphere in our community, where all people, including immigrants and refugees, are welcomed, accepted and encouraged to participate fully in civic life; and

community efforts that promote inclusivity, understanding and collaboration across cultures to learn about and appreciate everyone’s unique perspectives and experience are crucial to ensuring a welcoming  and thriving city;  and

Redmond encourages business leaders, civic groups, other government agencies and community institutions, and residents to join in a community-wide effort to expand prosperity, integration and inclusion for all residents;

NOW, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDMOND, OREGON:

That the City Council declares Redmond an Inclusive and Welcoming City that embraces and celebrates its immigrant and refugee residents, and welcomes and encourages their contributions to the collective prosperity and security of all current and future residents and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT to achieve this vision, and in alignment with Oregon State laws, the use of City funds, personnel and equipment is prohibited for the enforcement of federal immigration law and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the provision of services or benefits by the City shall not be conditioned upon a resident’s federal immigration status, except as required by federal or State law and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, as an initial action toward honoring the spirit and intent of this resolution, the City Council directs City staff to join as a proud member of the National Welcoming America Initiative.

RESOLUCIÓN PARA DECLARAR A REDMOND UNA CIUDAD ACOGEDORA Y AFIRMAR LA MEMBRESÍA EN LA INICIATIVA NACIONAL WELCOMING AMERICA
CONSIDERANDO,
 

Se entiende que la discriminación afecta negativamente la actividad económica local, la salud y el bienestar de todos nuestros residentes; y

Fomentar un ambiente de bienvenida y tratar a todas las personas con compasión y respeto, independientemente de su raza, origen étnico, lugar de origen o estatus de ciudadanía que realce el enjambre cultural de Redmond, el crecimiento económico, la competitividad global y la prosperidad general para las generaciones actuales y futuras; y

La ciudad de Redmond aspira a ser un lugar de bienvenida donde las personas, las familias y las instituciones prosperen y las contribuciones de todos sean celebradas y valoradas; y

Redmond se compromete a garantizar un ambiente de bienvenida y armonía en nuestra comunidad, donde todos sus habitantes, incluidos los inmigrantes y los refugiados, son bien recibidos, aceptados y alentados a participar plenamente en la vida cívica; y

Los esfuerzos comunitarios que promueven la inclusión, la comprensión y la colaboración entre culturas para aprender y apreciar las perspectivas y la experiencia únicas de cada uno son cruciales para asegurar una ciudad acogedora y próspera; y

POR LO QUE, SE RESUELVE POR EL CONSEJO DE LA CIUDAD DE REDMOND, OREGON:

Que el Consejo declare a Redmond una Ciudad Inclusiva y Acogedora (Welcoming), que considere y celebre a sus residentes inmigrantes y refugiados y da la bienvenida y alienta sus contribuciones a la prosperidad colectiva y seguridad de todos los residentes actuales y futuros y,

SE RESUELVE ADEMAS para lograr esta visión y de acuerdo con las leyes del Estado de Oregón, se prohíbe el uso de fondos, personal y equipo de la Ciudad para la aplicación de la ley federal de inmigración y,

SE RESUELVE ADEMAS, como una acción inicial para honrar el espíritu y la intención de esta resolución, el Concejo Municipal alienta al personal de la Ciudad a unirse como un miembro orgulloso de la INICIATIVA NACIONAL DE WELCOMING AMERICA.
