Modify Red Lobster's Appearance Standards

The recent change in uniforms from white dress shirts to black dress shirts provides an upgraded form of appearance in our company, however, the function for servers is compromised. Nothing offends a guest more than the acrid smell of body odor from a hard working server sweating from wearing his/her sleeves rolled down. This unpleasantness overshadows the most polite and accommodating of servers. For over 15 years, servers have worn short sleeve shirts or long sleeve shirts with the sleeves rolled up and now the standard is to wear dress shirts with the sleeves worn to the hands. All black shirts sold locally are half polyester, which does not breathe like 100% cotton shirts. When combining this with full length sleeves, this makes servers hot, causes perspiration, and consequently, a loss in their confidence in serving food. In addition, cuffs of long sleeve shirts are easily dirtied from the back splash of scraping dirty plates and from dressings while making salads. In an industry where perception is everything, it is incumbent upon us to ensure our guests are shown propriety. We, servers at Red Lobster, petition you to permit us to wear our sleeves rolled up during serving. Thank you.
