Redesign UC Davis Intersection for Safety Improvement
The intersection between Hutchinson Drive and Dairy road at UC Davis is known to cause anxiety and confusion to pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike, as whom often find themselves competing for space.
One block away, the intersection between La Rue and Hutchinson, has already been remodeled in order to improve safety by adding “Bike Boxes” in 2019, by Transportation Services, or TAPS:
“There will be more green paint in three “bike boxes” at the intersection of La Rue and Hutchison — the first bike boxes on campus, places for bicyclists to wait for green lights or safe openings to merge into traffic.”

This simple improvement, can, and must also be done, on the Hutchison Dr-Dairy Rd intersection, to not only improve efficiency, but more importantly safely, as we are all saddened by the recent tragedy that took place at that exact location.
