Why this petition matters

Started by Mariana Fulgencio

Since 2016, the IDFPR has limited the scope of practice of the our Illinois Licensed Estheticians.
We are very limited to what we can provide as a service to the public. It is known and stated that Illinois Estheticians are allowed to work on the epidermis ONLY.
The problem with this is that services like dermaplaning, microneedling (under a certain mm), and radio frequency is not allowed for Illinois Estheticians to provide, even though these services are capable of only working on the epidermis.
Illinois Esthetician’s are also not allowed to provide “chemical peels”, even if it’s a gentle exfoliation that does not cause any severe peeling and resurfacing of the skin.
We understand that some practices need special care and attention, which is why we attain a license, insurance, and training to provide such services.
Our neighboring states are allowed to provide services listed above, and we believe it is time to redefine our scope of practice and allow us to provide more services that are safely provided on the epidermis.
