I came to Reddit because I found a community where I could get unbiased news, open discussion, and differing opinions. Over the years it has fallen to the same corporate overlords as the other major social media platforms. 

When the pandemic hit in 2020, we were all shocked, and many people like myself turned to my favorite site to engage in conversation, read info and reports, and try to make sense of what was happening in the world around us. After all, we were all in this together. 

So I found this sub:

“r/nonewnormal has been a welcoming environment to people questioning the reality they see in person vs the reality they are shown on the TV. It has been a sub filled with valuable information directly from our government agencies as well as sources of news from other areas of the world”

In this sub I found a community that didn’t see what the TV was telling them coming true in their own real world communities. And they discussed. At the same time, I never saw a different point of view get shot down with hate, only rebuttals with fact and personal experience. It always led to discussion. 

To me, this is the type of community and interaction that made Reddit great. If Reddit decides to ban a sub for harboring individuals that have a view point that is different than the mainstream media, then this platform is as dead as MySpace and Cable TV.
