We the undersigned who live or work in Redbridge NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

At 9th January 2019 Redbridge Council is planning to restrict public participation at Council meetings. Key restrictions in public speaking rights are as follows:

“Questions may be rejected if substantially the same as has been put to a meeting of a Council body in the past 6 months.” (for ordinary meetings)

“Questions... must relate to a substantive item on the agenda for that meeting and may be rejected if substantially the same as has been put to a meeting of a Council body in the past 6 months” (for other council meetings)

During the council debate on the restrictions on 7th January 2019, Councillor Athwal, the Leader of Redbridge Council appeared to give a motivation for the changes when he said “We don't want the views of the same eight people” An audio recording of the debate is in the council website. The impact of these changes make it more difficult for the public to campaign on the climate emergency, crime, planning, housing, health or any other issue within the Council's remit. AND ASKS THE COUNCIL TO:

1 -Withdraw the proposed restrictions on public speaking:
2  - Take democracy to residents by ward Councillors holding public meetings in their wards each month on Facebook providing key information on air pollution, C02 indicators, crime, planning applications, housing and health relevant to their wards as a means of helping improve public services.
