I was quite shocked and saddened to see another pet store ban on the recently released agenda for Wednesday’s Council Meeting. I was very much looking forward to a discussion about the merits of the proposal and ways in which we can ensure the highest levels of animal welfare are promoted in Red Bank.

Mayor Menna and Councilwoman Horgan toured Bark Avenue in late February. I was promised a stakeholder process related to the pet store ban ordinance proposal. When we met at the store we did not have a substantive conversation about the proposal and the misguided efforts of a few to close my store at that time, nor any time since.

It is simply inconceivable that the town council is seeking to close my store and have yet still not sat down with me to talk about the proposed ordinance!! Every business owner in Red Bank and every citizen interested in freedom of choice when it comes to the puppy they bring home to their children should be OUTRAGED!

I even had our representative, Tom Leach, reach out to all of the council members AND the mayor to share the Washington Post report regarding rescues and the business model you are proposing in the ordinance in an effort to spur a discussion with all of you.

Yet again, nothing but silence.

I am prepared to again discuss the issues with this ordinance on May 30th  by presenting facts, not the emotionally charged hyperbole and outright lies of the activist group.

I am asking for ALL BARK AVENUE FANS TO SIGN THIS PETITION SUPPORTING YOUR RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHERE TO GET YOUR PUPPY AND JOIN US WEDNESDAY MAY 30TH AT 90 MONMOUTH STREET AT 6:30PM TO HAVE OUR VOICES HEARD!!

I will not let my seven employees lose their livelihoods without doing all that I can to protect them.

Sincerely,

Gary Hager
