For far too long the RVIA has been letting the major RV manufacturers run wild with sub standard construction and building practices. Many consumers purchase these RV’s believing that the RVIA seal affixed to the wall of their unit means that their unit is safe and built to some level of standard and that just isn’t the case most of the time. The major RV manufactures usually only offer a one year warranty because they know that after that year is over their product will essentially fall apart leaving the consumer with hefty bills. Often when a consumer brings their unit in for service the manufacturer will purposely drag their feet on the repairs for sometimes 6 months which exhausts the warranty period. They have iron clad contracts that remove them from liability.

PERSONALLY I purchased a 2019 Forest River Flagstaff 29RKWS of which I thought was a level above an entry level unit. Shortly after purchasing it it was noted that this air conditioning was incapable of cooling the unit. Again no standards enforcing proper engineering standards costing us another $1500 for an electrical upgrade and a second air conditioner. We had window leaks allowing water it infiltrate the inside of our trailer. We had baggage doors installed upside down with weep holes up. We have seam tape incorrectly installed on slide rooms exposing pre-drilled screw holes allowing water into the exterior walls which caused delamination of the exterior slide room walls.

the RV industry is using water soluble adhesives to build the walls of their trailers. This must be done on purpose to maximize returns on profits.

These substandard building practices ARE dangerous to ALL of us. Even for those that do not RV these RVs are dangerous to you as they fly down the interstate it’s an 80 miles an hour in the lane next to you. They are shipped with tires that are known to just fly apart known in the industry as “China Bombs”. For the RV enthusiast they can be deadly. These leaks often leave toxic mold spores to be present inside the units. In my case my 2019 unit is unusable as my wife has a severe lung disease and mold can kill her easily

In closure if the RVIA isn’t going to insure the safety, build quality and standards of the RV industry for consumer. Then they need to be replaced with a government agency that enforces such codes to protect the consumer. One year warranty are just a joke when the dealer can’t get parts for 6 months
