Ohio Cannabis Act

Ohio Cannabis Act

With only 21 very severe conditions qualifying for medicinal marijuana in the state of Ohio, countless residents are left without the aid of marijuana’s many proven health benefits. It is imperative that this initiative is passed promptly for the betterment of the great state of Ohio.
My name is Alexander Galloway. To begin, I want to make clear that I have no financial stake in the legalization of marijuana, and would make no profits from it being legalized. Unlike the most recent recreational marijuana proposed amendment on the 2015 ballot, my proposition would allow for a free market for dispensaries to sell to any citizen above the age of 21. Citizens would be allowed to cultivate their own crop, and be able to carry up to an ounce on their person at any given time. In addition to this, those with any prior legal offenses related to marijuana would have qualifying offenses removed from their record. I am currently in the process of collecting signatures for this issue, and would like to see it on the ballot in 2020.
This proposition would treat marijuana as if it were alcohol, with the same agency overseeing alcohol and marijuana sales. This bill would generate a bevy of employment opportunities and tax revenue. In only 5 years, the legalization of recreational marijuana in Colorado has generated over a billion dollars of tax revenue. With a population of more than double that of Colorado, Ohioans stand to generate much more tax revenue in the first five years. Also, a recent study has shown that some 211,000 full time jobs have been created across the country from the cannabis industry, with 64,000 of those jobs being added just in 2018.
This initiative requires 135,000 signatures by December 27, 2019 in order to qualify to be on the ballot in 2020. It then requires an additional 135,000 signatures to secure a spot on the ballot. If you could sign and share with as many people as you can, we can make Ohio the next state to be on the forefront of what many are calling the “green rush.” Legalizing recreational marijuana in Ohio is the right thing for those suffering, it’s the right thing for the economy, and it’s the right thing for the people.
***Update***
After signing the petition please share with friends and family in Ohio, the more public this petition becomes, the more likely we are to see it on the 2020 ballot. After 1,000 signatures there will be a campaign account opened with the State of Ohio for any and all donations!
