Recreational Ball leagues to Include All Needs

Sports have often been referred to as the great equalizer, possessing the power to transcend borders and unite a community— and that is just what we are hoping to achieve in our efforts to create an All Needs Baseball League.

It has come to my attention that Our city and county recreation departments do not currently have a baseball league that is geared toward children with disabilities. This struck me as I was wondering exactly where my child would fit in with the “regular sports teams” the recreational facility offers. I have two children who are both intellectually challenged and though I have seen cases where the city and county both allow children with specific needs to join in their traditional teams; I see nothing directed  specifically to a league of their very own.

Sometimes children can feel left out or withdraw if they haven’t mastered the skills to play team sports. Skills like agility, balance, timing, eye hand coordination, and visual acuity are important in games like T-ball, baseball , and kickball.

You can adapt a traditional game like Baseball  to different levels if you have a group of children with various abilities. Many children can benefit from breaking down the skills needed to play and by making a few rule adaptations.

The All Needs League will cater to every child who has a desire to play ball. It will give our children a chance to come together, and form a comradery. As well as feel included, and capable of doing anything. If you agree that there is a need for an all needs league, please take the time to sign our petition.
