Why this petition matters

Started by Kriss Jessop

My neighbor is saying my potbelly pig belongs on a farm. (insert cry emoji) I’ve had my girl Pig for over 5 years.
We spent 18 months having our forever home built 2 streets over from where we lived. Before the house was even done last summer, our new neighbor went to the city council because he wasn’t happy of the thought of having a pig live next door. We came from living on a city lot that was .18/acre and we never received one complaint from the 3 houses we shared a fence with. Our new house is on 1.6 acres. We live in a small town and our City council didn’t see an issue and approved us having her as long as all goes well for 1 year. Well it’s been about a year and said Neighbor is back in the city council stating Pig stinks and that she never goes in the house. Pig lives outdoors. She has a 21’x 26’  pen with a  6’x6’ heated house & covered porch. She’s happier and healthier than ever. 5 out of the 10 months we’ve lived here it’s been winter. Not only do we get her pen professionally cleaned once a week but if he could smell her over the past few months he must be trespassing. It's been cold and her pen is clean. She is literally causing no issues whatsoever.

I honestly think the real issue is that he is not only mad the lot next door isn’t vacant anymore but he’s not used to seeing a pet that’s out of the ordinary. We are clean people! Pigs are clean animals! She is my pet, a huge part of our family and now community. We have a boutique in our hometown named after her. I would be heartbroken if Pig was forced to be removed from our home because one guy is genuinely an unhappy person.

We haven't exactly been notified again by the City Council; however, we know it's coming so I want to be prepared. We are in the works of putting up a privacy fence so hopefully out of sight, out of mind but in the meantime, I would be forever grateful if you would sign this petition in support of us keeping our beloved pet.
