Why this petition matters

Kuchipudi dance is one among Indian classical dance forms.  Kuchipudi is indigenous to the states of  Andhra Pradesh and Telanganaand differs from the other five classical styles by the inclusion of singing. Kuchipudi originated in the 17th century with the creation by Sidhyendra Yogi of the dance-drama Bhama Kalapam, a story of Satyabhāma.  This art form is one of the major art that has various academic syllabus and has many PhD students as well in various universities.  In USA, Australia and many other countries this course has been accepted and counts under credits at university level.  I would request this should be recognized in canada as well to encourage more and more kids to join with all their enthusiasm and benefit out of it.  We have now many good teachers who are trying to encourage all Telugu speaking families to join their kids in this great art form.

Currently there are only 5 to 8% of Telugu speaking people joining their kids for this art form but if we have the benefit of having high school credit given after all the hard work of the kids, parents will be more inclined to join their kids in Kuchipudidance as well.

Please support the great cause of carrying forward the art form in canada as well.
