“Structural integrity compromised?  Cross Bronx Expressway, any of you ever noticed this? Just before the George Washington Bridge, there is a 40 story building thats built over the roadway. Well over 50% of the main supporting Pillars are collapsing under pressure. Just recently the city decided to put plastic covers around the worst piers so that motorists wouldn’t notice how bad the situation really is. 

How could it be allowed to get this bad? Ive been watching these pillars come apart for the past few years. A little worse each time I drive through there. I no longer feel safe driving under that collapsing structure, and to think, the building is filled with thousands of unknowing, innocent people.”

The paragraphs above was taken from a post on face book, with photos that show what is being described in words. As a New York City resident I not only feel concerned but unsafe! Driving above or below what has been shown as a true definition, of life threatening circumstances is just not acceptable! The people who live in that building should also receive a fair warning and Someone needs to be held accountable and fix this matter, before it gets out of hand and thousands if not hundreds of thousands of life’s are lost!

This is why I, August Ruffin have chosen to write this petition, we have brand new stadiums and buildings, stores etc. But what is most important to sustain and save lives is slowly crumbling away right before our eyes! I suggest and hope that this highway to destruction will be closed for repairs and soon. With this petition hopefully we can start to repair and rebuild what already exists in our home town! It’s time for us to open our eyes and fix the small things before they become the big things that can no longer be fixed!
