REAL Women of Canada has been chosen to be part of the selection committee for The Canadian Queen's Diamond Jubilee program which awards medals to 60,000 "outstanding" Canadians. While this group appears to be anti-feminist and socially conservative, the real problem with their inclusion in such an esteemed committee is that their website and the heralded views of their members is so homophobic and transphobic. As a Canadian citizen, I am outraged that this group is going to have a say in who deserves medals of excellence when their opinions and actions consistently disregard the basic human rights of others.
The REAL Women of Canada website encourages its members to write their MPS to thank them for voting against Bill C-389 which would lead to "unforeseen consequences" like " special rights for cross dressers and the gender confused, people using washrooms reserved for the opposite sex with impunity, children exposed to gender confusion in schools, (the American College of Pediatricians distributed a warning letter on March 31, 2010, which stated: It’s extremely dangerous for children to be taught that transgendered is equal to heterosexual and normal gender.”) and medical personnel will be pressured to disregard known medical practices in treating gender identity disorders." - from Real Women of Canada's website. (Alerts).
Their columnist figured prominently in "Carol's Corner" on their home page (a composite of various different writers) seems to excuse teen bullying by "ordinary" teenagers because they are frustrated by the special treatment given to "multicultural" groups and the "gay agenda" which is also referred to as a "highly sexualized gay agenda" or "despicable agenda". The column then calls for a radical solution to bullying by overhauling the "PC agenda".
Please remove the delegation of REAL Women of Canada from the Diamond Jubilee Medals Committee. A group that promotes prejudice, intolerance, disrespect, and inequality should be in no position to determine outstanding Canadians and to appoint this group to such a prestigious committee is an insult.
Thank you for your attention on this matter.
