We've won (for now at least)!
Oct 7, 2020 —
This evening the application to redevelop the Drews site was presented to Reading Borough Council's planning committee, along with the reasons why we thought the application should be refused and our petition. I spoke against the development, along with the chair of Reading's Conservation Area Advisory Committee, and our ward councillors gave us some great support too.
Result: the application was unanimously REFUSED by the committee.
The decision is great news for our town's heritage. It'll almost certainly not be the end of the story, as the developer will probably decide to appeal or submit a revised planning application, but it's a fantastic start.
Many thanks to you all for campaigning with us - let's keep the pressure up to save this valuable example of Reading's fine Victorian architecture and rich industrial history.
