Re-Vote on Open Choice Program for Darien Public Schools

Re-Vote on Open Choice Program for Darien Public Schools
Why this petition matters
As a Master of Social Work Student and a former student of Darien High School, I strongly disagree with the school board's decision to vote against the Open Choice Program. The Open Choice Program "would have allowed up to 16 kindergartners from Norwalk to attend Darien elementary schools this fall. Historically, the program attracts applicants from underserved racial and economic backgrounds." Board members cited that this was a difficult time to implement the project due to the pandemic. However, the Darien School District has more resources than lower socioeconomic areas. Please sign to help create positive change and a more diverse community. This open choice would allow racially diverse and lower socioeconomic status students from the Norwalk area to attend Darien Public schools. It is important to fight back against the resistance to change to provide young minds better opportunities to succeed.
